Situated at an elevation of approximately 1400m, Lushoto is the most densely populated and cultivated of the mountain ranges in northeast Tanzania. It is the main town in the western Usambara. The area is scenically varied with plantations and indigenous forests and provides the best views at the edge of Usambara escarpment to the low-lying plains below. Lushoto has recently developed into a popular spot for tourists with limited time and who want to see what Africa has to offer other than beaches and game.
Lushoto is very well connected to other major towns in Tanzania by tarmac roads. It is only 3 hours drive from Moshi and only two hours from Tanga.
